Titi Luzipo: Being Woman – the Total Shutdown

Satuday, 31 August
20h30 – R150

Over the years, South Africa has been overwhelmed by almost-daily killings of young women. The rising number of women who are physically, emotionally, and mentally abused by their partners, family members, and strangers is alarming. Statistics show that everyday, all over the world, a woman is killed and raped. Some say it will take a while to improve this situation.

The awarenesses and movements put together by women in aid of saving those who are in this danger have been an
absolute pleasure to encounter and experience. In a few weeks South Africa will, once again, unite against this barbaric act of rape and women
abuse with a Total Shutdown.

Titi Luzipo embarked on the #BeingWoman journey as part of a movement to eradicate femicide.

“Many times as artists we focus on the fame and fortune that comes with our careers, forgetting that we are faced with the daily deterioration of socioeconomics within our communities. This requires us to be active members of society, and unite against the injustices we face,” says Luzipo.

Titi has presented #BeingWomen with the likes of Judith Sephuma, Siphokazi, Thandi Ntuli and many other great women. Her sold out Port Elizabeth concert featured her mother, and renowned jazz vocalist, Vuyelwa Qwesha-Luzipo. Titi has worked with greats such as Simphiwe Dana, Tsepo Tshola, and Gloria Bosman amongst many. She was also one of the music directors for All Black Friday in remembrance of uMam’uWinnie Madikizela-Mandela. Titi’s recent Euro-tour with the award winning jazz acapella outfit, Africappella, afforded them the opportunity to work and perform with Grammy award winning ensemble, The Real Group.

For the first time this year, Titi returns to The Orbit on 31 August with an all-woman band for #BeingWoman.
