The Finnish National Opera and Ballet has opened a call for projects for an immersive art experience. The organisers are looking for Artists, Thinkers / Coders , Polymaths Designers + Micro Utopias.
The competition offers a 85.000€ prize pool in the search for the best immersive art concept. The produced piece will be sent to an international festival tour in 2020.
Around eight teams will be shortlisted and invited to participate in First Session in Helsinki (travel, accommodation and entry passes sponsored by the Finnish National Opera and Ballet). You will be able to evolve and elucidate your idea in workshops with world-renowned creative and technological mentors. Work alongside visionary artists Esa-Pekka Salonen and Paula Vesala to prepare a final presentation of your concept.
At the end of the First Session event, an international jury will select the winning concept and team. The best part: The Finnish National Opera will have a production budget of 75.000€ at the disposal of the winning team (plus any further travel and accomodation expenses covered). The actual production of the experience will take place during 2019 and 2020, in a few compact design and production sprints.
Another 10.000€ of prize money will be allocated among teams that have made valuable contributions at First Session.
The finalized experience will premiere in the spring of 2020 and it will be promoted internationally at relevant film and immersive festivals.
