THAT ART FAIR is an inspired, curated art fair event initiated by ART AFRICA magazine. With a specific focus on contemporary artists from Africa and the diaspora, THAT ART FAIR addresses the needs of artists living and working on the continent – and further afield – by providing a platform where they can showcase their work in a relaxed but professional environment and be seen by curators, collectors, galleries and new audiences.
To say it like it is: THAT ART FAIR hails the artist as hero! ART AFRICA has adapted the traditional model of the ‘art fair’ to offer unrepresented and emerging artists an opportunity to benefit from this professional stage, by providing them with the necessary resources to help them to achieve recognition and success.
The inaugural event was held from 27 February – 1 March 2015 in a multi-level parking garage in Salt River, at the edge of the Woodstock creative district in Cape Town. Over 20 major sponsors lined up to support the event in featuring the work of more than 150 artists from 8 African countries, with established galleries, artist collectives and individual artists presented alongside one another.
THAT ART FAIR 2016 will encompass a wide range of disciplines and featured events (including but not limited to): Visual Art, Performance Art, Comic Art, Photography, Design, Film & Video, and a Workshops & Talks Programme. It will be held at The Palms Centre in Woodstock in Cape Town, from 18 February – 20 March 2016.
